Sleeping Bag - 'Beside'

An adorable power pop charmer from Sleeping Bag's debut full-length, out now on Joyful Noise Records.

Arizona

Arizona has a song called “Doom”. That was enough to convince me to give them a listen. They’re actually really great though! Doom starts out with the question, “You won’t stand still. So why should the world?” Deep, right? I’m not going to lie. It’s hard for me to find good bands in Indianapolis. I’m not saying they don’t exist. Maybe I just haven’t found the right places yet. However, Arizona is really good.

Lounge Soundsystem

The 8 minute first track “Anadamide” is truly jammy.

If you’re going to name your band Lounge Soundsystem, you’d better be an appropriate soundtrack for casual hanging out. To test this, I had a couple of my friends come sit in my room and play cards while I listened to Lounge Soundsystem. They made no objections.

The Bonesetters

Wow! The Bonesetters are great! The claim to be a mix of western swing, surf rock, bluegrass, and images meant for dreams, and they list their genre as “Train Whistle”. Some of these jams are certainly dreamy. Their list of artists they also like includes some of the best of Indiana. Think what Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s would sound like if they were a little more lyrically accessible and way more into good old rock and roll.

Gray Home Music - 'Floating Toaster Screen Saver'

These kids remind me a little of early Bright Eyes with extra banjo and a much better sense of humor. Their full-length Fresh Water Mistakes, available now on Third Uncle Records, is filled up with lo-fi charmers like this one.
