If you’re going to name your band Lounge Soundsystem, you’d better be an appropriate soundtrack for casual hanging out. To test this, I had a couple of my friends come sit in my room and play cards while I listened to Lounge Soundsystem. They made no objections.
Brendon Riha, Tyson Tiede, and Ryan Goecker have been making this Psychedelic Jam Rock since 2009, adding John Young along the way. They claim influence from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Phish, and Radiohead among others, and these strong roots definitely show in the music.
You can download the 8 track album “LEP” on Lounge Soundsystem’s Bandcamp page.
The 8 minute first track “Anadamide” is truly jammy. This kind of band could set up in a house and play all night. They play for a full five minutes before any vocals come in at all. The second track is immediately as jammy as the first. It’s called “Slippin’ Time” and it begins with a huge bass slide.
“Firesale” is easily the best track on the album. It is concise. It is a huge break from the drawn out psychedelic funk jams of the rest of the album. Seven of those is enough. This is, in my opinion, definitely the most appropriate track for lounging to.
If you’re in Indianapolis, be sure to check out Lounge Soundsystem. It’s probably different every time, and that’s a great thing. They have quite a few fans on Facebook, so I’m sure there will be plenty of other people there.
