Wow! The Bonesetters are great! The claim to be a mix of western swing, surf rock, bluegrass, and images meant for dreams, and they list their genre as “Train Whistle”. Some of these jams are certainly dreamy. Their list of artists they also like includes some of the best of Indiana. Think what Margot & The Nuclear So and So’s would sound like if they were a little more lyrically accessible and way more into good old rock and roll.
The title-track on their debut album SAVAGES is immediately enjoyable. I closed the door to my room so I could listen to this one a little louder. It was scaring my dog. The rest of the album stands up really well. Listen to “Shakespeare” if you want to clear your head for a couple minutes. After “Savages”, “Mushroom Clouds Aloft” is probably my favorite track on the album. It’s got the strongest beat, and it’s pretty catchy. Although, I do very much get the idea that this is the kind of album I could listen to for months and end up liking every track equally. Check it all out!
There are plenty of pictures from shows on The Bonesetters Facebook page that seem to indicate that everyone has a great time when they play. They’re playing a show in Muncie at Be Here Now with Vacation Club, Everything, Now!, and She Does Is Magic. If I were around, I’d be absolutely sure to make that. This band is too solid!
